Christian and environmental leaders from around the globe will lead a service of prayer, reflection, and song to celebrate Creation Day and the beginning of the Season of Creation.

Creation Day, Celebrated by Global Christians

  • Pope Francis and Patriarch Bartholomew have issued a rare joint statement. Their statement is in support of the World Day of Prayer for Creation. In a sign of his extraordinary support for creation, Patriarch Bartholomew issued an independent statement as well.
  • Dr. Olav Fyske Tveit, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, issued a statement in support of the World Day of Prayer for Creation.”

Pope Francis’ Mass in Colombia

Climate Action Week BIG SHIFT Initiatives

September 18 – 24

The BIG SHIFT Global Campaign aims to get the World Bank and other regional Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) to stop funding fossil fuels. Season of Creation participants are encouraged to join the advocacy initiatives that will take place September 18-24 as a concrete way to care for our earth and encourage the shift to renewable energy. The BIG SHIFT is organized by Christian Aid and the Climate Action Network. See more information here.

Feast of St. Francis Online Prayer Service

October 4

Join leaders from around the globe for an ecumenical online prayer service to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis and the closing of the Season of Creation. This will be a time for prayer, petition, and reflection for creation. Prayer leaders include:

  • His Eminence Archbishop Job of Telmessos, Archdiocese of the Russian Orthodox Churches in Western Europe (Ecumenical Patriarchate).
  • Bishop Allwyn D’Silva of Bombay, India.
