On World Environment Day this June 5, the Season of Creation 2024 Celebration Guide was officially launched.

Ecumenical religious leaders from around the world gathered in an online event to launch the Guide, with a moment of reflection and prayer, in preparation for the Season of Creation, which will take place from September 1st to October 4th with the theme “To hope and act with Creation”.

During the event, religious leaders invited people to review the material in the Guide with their communities, and inspired them with ideas and proposals on how to celebrate the upcoming Season of Creation, organizing activities ahead of time and making the most of the materials provided. This year, the September 1st celebration falls on a Sunday, providing a special opportunity to prepare prayer services in tune with this year’s theme and symbol.

The event was attended by: Sharon Thiong’o, Fellow, World Communion of Reformed Churches; Rev. Dr. Dave Bookless, Head of Theology, A Rocha International; Rev. Dr. Rachel Mash, Green Anglicans, Co-Chair of Season of Creation Steering Committee; Suzi Moreira, Laudato Si’ Movement, Co-Chair of Season of Creation Steering Committee; Dr. Lindlyn Moma, Advocacy Director, Laudato Si’ Movement; Fr. Antoine Al Ahmar, Middle East Council of Churches; Rev. James Shri Bhagwan, General Secretary, Pacific Conference of Churches; Paulo Ueti, Theological Advisor and Regional Director for Latin America, Anglican Alliance.

The Celebration Guide is a free and extensive toolkit with unique resources for local communities to celebrate the Season of Creation. It contains an explanation of this year’s theme and symbol, prayers, and ideas for ecumenical events involving spirituality, education and sustainability, among other materials.
