Season of Creation

What is the Season of Creation?

Season of Creation is a special ecumenical season that takes place every year from September 1 to October 4. It is a time when we celebrate God as Creator and acknowledge Creation as the divine continuing act that summons us as collaborators to love and care for the gift of all that is created. Ecumenical Patriarch Dimitrios I proclaimed 1 September as a day of prayer for Creation for the Orthodox in 1989, then the World Council of Churches helped extend it until October 4, and with time Christians worldwide have embraced the season as part of their annual calendar. You can read more about it here.

Who is behind the Season of Creation?

The ecumenical family worldwide! Faith communities and individuals from across the globe and from across denominations are behind and in front of Season of Creation, helping to organize and plan activities in their local realities. Resources to celebrate the Season of Creation and the discernment for the theme and symbol each year are supported by an ecumenical Steering Committee, with the support of the Advisory Committee that is composed of high-level faith leaders from major denominations and faith-based organizations. A coalition of partners from around the world are also committed to celebrating the season, promoting it, and offering their own personalized resources to celebrate the season. You can read more about the Steering Committee and the Advisory Committee here. And you can find out who the partners are here.
