SEASON OF CREATION 2021
A DREAM FROM AN EAST AFRICAN LAUDATO SI ANIMATOR
From the Symbol, Abraham’s tent and the Theme of this year “A Home for All, renewing the Oikos of God”; we were encouraged to place the tent in a local garden as a sign of hospitality for the excluded, the most vulnerable and the poor.
As a Laudato si Animator, I thought on how to pitch my tent and which people should be my target. In prayer and reflections, I got an idea. To come up with a fruit garden. I requested for a piece of land in our community garden so that I could put my dream into a reality. I have been given a good piece of land and as I type I have planted twenty pawpaw trees with the help of my fellow sisters. I am yet to add in Mango trees, oranges and melons.
The aim is to grow abundant fruits so that I could share with the poor in my area (Gatina, in Nairobi Kenya) so that they could have a balanced meal and it is my prayer that I can reach out to a good number of families, especially those whose children are suffering from malnutrition and the elderly. This will be the sign of hospitality to these people as we open the Season of Creation 2021. It is also in line with footprint reduction in our area.
These pawpaw trees were generously donated and blessed by Fr. Hermann Borg OFM on his Golden Jubilee. May God bless this dream so that the poor who cannot afford a balanced meal be reached by this Laudato si fruit garden from Loreto Convent Msongari
