A HOME AND A HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

October 4, 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm UTC+0

Youth Committee closing event for Season of Creation with Amanda Costa, UN Youth Ambassador

Today our very survival depends on our ability to stay awake, to adjust to new ideas, to remain vigilant and to face the challenge of change. The large house in which we live demands that we transform this worldwide neighborhood into a worldwide brotherhood. Together we must learn to live as brothers or together we will be forced to perish as fools.” – Martin Luther King Jr (Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?)

“It is the young who want to be the protagonists of change. Please, don’t leave it to others to be the protagonists of change. You are the ones who hold the future! Through you the future is fulfilled in the world. I ask you also to be protagonists of this transformation. Continue to overcome apathy, offering a Christian response to the social and political anxieties, which are arising in various parts of the world. I ask you to be builders of the world, to work for a better world.” – Pope Francis (Prayer Vigil WYD Rio 2013)

Inspired by these words, the SOC Ecumenical Youth Committee has the pleasure to invite all to participate in the closing ceremony of Season of Creation, led by youth leaderships from around the globe who are working towards the change for a more just, fraternal, and sustainable world.

The event will have the presence of Dominique Yon, Youth Coordinator for the Catholic Archdiocese of Cape Town, Rev. Dennis Nthenge, from Green Anglican Kenya and Minister at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, Savanna Sullivan, Program Executive for Youth at the Lutheran World Federation, Suzana Moreira, Catholic theologian and Brazilian program assistant at the Laudato Si’ Movement, Khulekani Magwaza, Lutheran World Federation council member, and Rev. Kagiso Morudu, ELCSA Pastor and Project Coordinator of ELCSA Lutheran Youth Identities.

We will also have the special presence of Amanda Costa, who will be sharing with us a reflection of hope and action as we close off this wonderful season. Amanda is a UN Youth Ambassador, a member of Evangélicos pelo Clima (Evangelicals for Climate), and the founder of Perifa Sustentável, which is a project for sustainability in low-income neighborhoods in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The event will be broadcasted in Season of Creation & Laudato Si’ Movement Facebook and Youtube
