(the place of the sermon to the birds of St. Francis)
Appointment Saturday, September 12 at 17:00. Various also local initiatives
ASSISI – The Season of Creation continues to be celebrated with different events in the Diocese of Assisi – Nocera Umbra – Gualdo Tadino. Last Saturday, September 5, the retreat Laudato Sì was held online, led by Tomas Insua, Executive Director of the Global Catholic Climate Movement (GCCM) and Antonio Caschetto, coordinator of Italian programs..
On September 12 at 5 pm (CEST) the Diocesan Ecumenical Prayer Service for Season of Creation will be held in Piandarca (Cannara), place of the “Preaching to the birds” of St. Francis, ideal space to celebrate the “Jubilee for the Earth”. This moment is organized by the Diocese of Assisi – Nocera Umbra – Gualdo Tadino and the GCCM, in collaboration with the Municipality of Cannara, the Municipality of Assisi, the Piandarca Committee, the parish of St. Matthew the Apostle and St. John the Baptist of Cannara and the Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order of Cannara.
The route, which will follow the three moments of the “song of creation”, the “cry of the earth and the poor” and the “action in creation”, will begin at 5 p.m. at the site where an outdoor shrine will be built – marked by the great TAU. People will arrive at the boulder that marks the place where Francis preached to the birds, to return to the Tau for a final moment. The route has been elaborated together by the different subjects involved, in the spirit of the Laudato si’ that reminds that “everything is connected”. The interventions will be centered on the figure of Jesus and Sacred Scripture, trying to involve some of the categories that this year in particular have been most committed to the care of our common home, from the world of health care to the services of Caritas. The reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the TAU of Piandarca, after the registration operations necessary to comply with the Covid emergency regulations.

Other initiatives prepared by individual communities, such as the celebration held on September 1 at the Cathedral of San Rufino, are added to these appointments. The Shrine of Renunciation has decided, for the Sunday masses from September 6 until October 4, the integration of the readings and the insertion of a sign in the apse area (a small tree and the four elements of the Canticle), integrating this special time in the liturgy,. Similar initiatives can be proposed by individual parishes, and registered on the site https://seasonofcreation.org/it/home-it/
