Throughout the Season of Creation, we saw communities celebrating God as Creator through prayers, walks, and actions in defense of climate justice. We began by praying, rallied for a just energy transition, and concluded with prayer and thanksgiving.

The voice of our leaders

Religious leaders of different Christian denominations spoke out in defense of our common home. Their voice gives us the indication that we are on the right path and fills us with energy to continue the task.

His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, Archbishop of Constantinople, stated that “The environmental threat is a dimension of the prolonged crisis of contemporary civilization.”  In his message, Pope Francis invited us to hope and act with creation. Impactful and unforgettable events

A high-level event was held in Paris, led by Bishop Eric de Moulins-Beaufort, President of the French Bishops’ Conference, Rev. Christian Krieger, President of the Protestant Federation, and Metropolitan Dimitrios, President of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops. During the celebration, Bishop de Moulins-Beaufort declared that “God saves us and saves Creation, but what each of us can do, no matter how small, we must do.”

An Evangelical Christian Baptist Church in Mottola, Italy, organized a service with liturgical animation, videos and songs dedicated to creation, readings and preaching of the Word, in which about 50 brothers and sisters participated.

The Anglican Church of Canada organized an ecological walk “to pray with the trees”; while the World Council of Churches (WCC) called on its members around the world to rally and support the Faith Non-Proliferation Treaty: “It is not just a symbolic act, it is a collective moral statement.”

Did you celebrate, too?

The fruits of hope that we saw being reborn during the Season of Creation are precious, and we are convinced that they will continue to sprout in the coming months.
