With less than a week to go before the beginning of the Season of Creation, new Christian communities all over the world are organizing activities to celebrate, committing themselves to hope and act with creation. In the United States, Spain, Australia, the Philippines and also in the United Kingdom, events are multiplying and have already begun to happen!
In the state of New York, USA, a guided day of retreat with a mountain hike is being prepared. And, the United Reformed Church of the United Kingdom sent a message of invitation to live out the Season of Creation and prepared a set of resources for the community.
In Spain, many churches have also joined in, among them the Diocese of Vittoria, which has organized five key events for the Season of Creation: an opening morning prayer, a roundtable discussion for the sharing of experiences, a field clean-up, a second roundtable discussion with Hogares Verdes, Comunidad Energética Urbana, and Caritas Vitoria, as well as a concluding vespers prayer with the celebration of the Eucharist.
From the other side of the world, the Korean Bishops’ Conference has sent out a message supporting the Season of Creation, encouraging Catholics to commit themselves to care for our common home. Likewise, in Sydney, Australia, the Diocese of Parramatta is inviting people to participate in various activities, including an opening mass on September 1, celebrated by the local bishop.
Caritas Philippines also calls for “a greater ecological commitment in the face of growing environmental challenges,” through a message from its bishop, Bishop Paul Virgilio David. In particular, they propose six priority ecological actions to implement in the country in favor of those most affected by environmental degradation and the climate crisis.
