•  MovThe Season of Creation presents a special opportunity for prayer, reflection, and action, renewing our shared commitment to caring for our common home. A key event in Asia Pacific this year is the “Season of Creation 2024: Cultivating Hope and Action with Creation” webinar, co-organized by the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences-Office of Human Development and Laudato Si’ Movement, which took place on August 27. The event explored the proposal to make September 1 a formal liturgical feast and allowed episcopal commissions and grassroots groups to share their Season of Creation plans.

Invitations from episcopal conferences to celebrate the Season of Creation are beginning to flow in:

  • The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea invites everyone to participate and download the celebration guide from the CBCK website. Park Hyun-dong Abbas, Chairman of the Ecology and Environment Committee, emphasizes, “Humans should be ‘gardeners,’ not ‘top predators.’”
  • Bishop Pablo David, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, urges participation, calling it a time to “renew our sense of kinship with all creation.”
  • Bishop Gervas Rozario, DD, Chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh, calls for urgent collective action during the Season of Creation, emphasizing the 7 Laudato Si’ Goals as essential to addressing the climate crisis and protecting our common home.

The Laudato Si’ Movement network is also ensuring that resources are accessible, with translations now available in Korean, Indonesian, Cebuano, and Tagalog and more languages coming soon.

Laudato Si’ Movement Korea hosted a webinar to raise awareness about the Season of Creation and this year’s advocacy focus on the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty and Laudato Si’ Movement Indonesia hosted an opening eucharistic celebration. Meanwhile, the Parish Youth Ministry of St. William’s Cathedral in Tabuk, Kalinga, Philippines, launched their preparations with a community clean-up drive. Across the region, institutions and communities are enthusiastically preparing for the Season of Creation.

  • Focolare Movement-Oceania will host an online reflection and gathering on September 8.
  • Caritas Philippines and Laudato Si’ement Pilipinas are organizing a dialogue on the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty on September 20.
  • Hong Kong Diocesan Commission on Integral Human Development will offer Ecological Art Workshops on September 9, 14, 21, and 28.
